Wrockites win well, Highley pick up away win, Hanmer tame Dragons
Wrockwardine Wood won 14-2 at Horsehay in week 13 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Rob Jones says “14 points away from home, amazing result, can’t speak highly enough about this group, they just keep going. We’ve played 13 and won 12, and in any normal season we are champions elect. But the top of the table today is absolutely insane and we are probably realistically third.
But we are exactly where we want to be at this stage of the season and it’s all still there to play for.” Best winner for them was the returning Chris Grocott and Martin Williams 12, with Garry Owen best for the home side 8. The league leaders Sir John Bayley beat Wem USC 12-2 with Scott Harries and Paul Evans best winners 3. Colin Smith was best for the away side 10. Castlefields had a good 11-3 win over Hanwood as Wayne Rogers led the way 21-6 and Andy Jones did for the visitors 21-13.
Highley had a good 12-4 win at neighbours Bylet. Stand in skipper Andy James says “the Bylet green was running nicely. Our front four worked hard to get 3 out of the 4 winners, although we were 6 down. We both had 2 winners in the middle 4 and the game was still close. Our back 4 bowled well and we had 3 winners. An excellent win for us. Good luck to Bylet for the rest of the season. The match was played in a friendly manner and we welcome the Bylet to us on Wednesday.” Best winner for them was Danny Statham 12, while Rob Fuller 4 was best for the home side. Hanmer had a great 10-4 win over St Georges. Skipper Ieuan Pugh said it was “a good result for us, some top quality bowls from both sides. We were fortunate to win all the close games. We had a couple of good comebacks wins as well which tipped the game in our favour. We know there a top quality side and we’ll have to be at our best at there place on Wednesday a green we tend to struggle at.” Best winner was Dave Gourlay 7 with Joe Killen best for the away side by the same score. Burway had a good 11-3 win over Meole Brace. Skipper Adam Dovey was “really happy with the result on Friday, was nice to have a dry week and have the green running nicely and in immaculate condition. We played well 1-12 against a good Meole side and look forward to playing them again Wednesday.” Best winners were both 21-10, Kev Dovey for the home side and Doug Edwards for the away. Adderley will be happy with their 4 winners at Ifton led by Jack Hazeldine’s 5 win. For Ifton it was Leighton Roberts best winner 8.
Sir John Bayley are 9 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood, who are another four ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay and Bylet are level on points with Bylet having a game in hand, both are 15 behind Adderley. Callum Wraight is out on his own with 12 wins at the top of the League Averages.
