Horsehay squeak home, Meole edge out Dragons, Ifton defeat Wrockites
Horsehay squeaked home in week 15 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League to earn their third win of the season. Captain Andy Garbett says “it was a very close game the atmosphere was brilliant. Gavin bridge (best winner 10) and Dave Clayton played exceptionally well. I hope we kick on now!” Best winner for Hanwood was Glyn Wellings 10. Meole Brace also had a close game as they beat St Georges with 5 winners. Captain Nick Davies commented “although I wasn’t at the game, I was kept informed of how the game was going throughout the night. You can image the feeling when the text comes through 4-0 down! However, we showed our battling spirit, got ourselves back into the game and despite having only the five winners, we managed to win the aggregate. I was very pleased with the win against a strong side and celebrated with a few more glasses of wine!” Best winner for them was Tracy Bound 8 while Clay Flattley was best for the away side 10.
Ifton defeated the in form Wrockwardine Wood 10-4 to inflict just their second defeat of the season. Skipper Dickie Jones says “it was a good solid performance against a good Wrockwardine side. It was 4 wins each after 8 but we managed to win all the back four to seal a good win.” Best winner for them was Martin Jones 8 with Wrockwardine’s being Chris Grocott and Aaron King 16. Sir John Bayley extended their lead with a 12-2 victory over Highley. Paul Evans was best winner 5 and Dave Scriven best for Highley 13. Castlefields did bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat and beat Wem USC 12-2 with Dave Peach leading the way 21-3. Colin Smith was best for the away side 18. Burway bounced back from Wednesday as well with a 11-3 win over Burway. Best winner was Ben Allen 11 with away skipper Cheryl Caswell best winner for them 10. Hanmer won 10-4 again this time against Adderley. Hanmer’s captain Ieuan Pugh led the way with his 7 win and Rich Pullen led the way for Adderley 12.
Sir John Bayley are 18 points clear of Wrockwardine Wood, who are another 6 ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are one point behind the Bylet who have a game in hand. Wem USC are 19 clear of Bylet. Callum Wraight leads Stuart Rutter, Rich Lawson and Tom Roden on 13 wins.
