Castlefields fightback, Dragons earn bragging rights, Bylet continue form
Castlefields fought back to keep in the title race in week 21 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League after winning 12-4 at Burway. Captain Steve Peach said “a superb effort from the lads to keep the pressure on in the title race. We were very unlucky to find ourselves 3-1 behind off the front but the lads dug in to win 7 of the final 8 games to secure a very good 12-4 win.” Best winners for them was Adam Jones and Ash Wellings 10, and best for the home side was Paul Williams 7. Sir John Bayley returned to form with a 11-3 victory over Hanmer, best winner being Tom Roden 5. For Hanmer it was Nathan Lacey their best winner 15. St Georges had a great 11-3 win over neighbours Wrockwardine Wood to close the gap on them. Skipper Josh Bradburn said it was a “great team result against a strong and competitive side. Everyone showed up on the night for what is always one of the biggest games of our season.” Best winner for them was Joe Killen 6 and for the Wrockites it was Sam Millward 14. Ifton also won 11-3 against Horsehay led by Oliver Jones’ 5 win, while the Hoss’ best winner was Olly Harris 8. The Bylet though got 5 winners at Meole Brace to continue their good form, that’s now 31 points in 4 matches. Captain Cheryl Caswell says “to go anywhere and get 5 points away from home is a good result especially given our league position. So we have to be pleased with the result at a venue we have struggled at in previous years. Think a couple from Meole were superb but pleased with how we kept battling as a team.” Rob Fuller was their best winner 9, with Tracy Bound and Doug Edwards the home side’s best winners 6. Adderley fought back from 3-1 down against Highley to win 9-5. Tom Killen was best winner 7 and Dave East best for Highley 9. Wem USC also won 9-5 against Hanwood with Shaun Nagle’s 21-2 win their best, and Dave Burton’s 10 win best for the visitors.
Sir John Bayley lead by 2 to Castlefields, with Wrockwardine Wood a further 18 points behind. Bylet are now 16 points ahead of Horsehay, but are 20 points behind Hanmer and Adderley. Callum Wraight is now 3 wins ahead of the chasing pack.
