Scott Harries won the 2024 Newport Open after beating Pete Grimston in the final 9. He had gone 8-1 up over the middle but Pete got back to be 11-9 down. However he had a bad end down an edge and Scott got back and was imperious scoring four twos in the next four ends to win the competition for the first time.
In the Semi Finals Pete was 13-7 up on Sam Millward but Sam got back to be 16-15 down. However Pete then ran out. Scott was 8-2 up on Scott Simpson over the middle but Simpson got into the corners and went 11-8. Harries got back to 15 across and it was nip and tuck before Simpson played Scott out for 2 to go 20-19 up. But Harries got the two he needed last end into the quick corner.
The Quarter Finals saw Sam go 11-4 up on Dan Taylor and keep this lead to win 14. Pete was 9-5 down on Josh Bradburn but then 12-9 up. Josh led Pete 17-16 but Pete went ahead again at 20-18 up. Josh lay two on but Pete played a good bowl to get in. Simpson was only 11-9 up on Jesse James but then went 20-9 up and won 10. Harries was 12-8 up against Lee Traylor before going 19-8 up and winning 9.
