Fields win big again, Wrockites Whitewash, Ifton win away
Castlefields won big again at Highley in week 3 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won 14-2 again just like last year, Gary Neal and Andrew Judson best winners 8 while Dave Scriven was best for the hosts 16. Vice-captain Jon Palmer comments on “a superb performance on Friday at Highley. We managed to turn a lot of the close games into wins, which is vitally important in a league that has been decided by the odd point over the last few seasons. Young Rhys Marshall winning his game from 13-5 down stood out.” Wrockwardine Wood also earned 14 points after whitewashing Hanmer, led by Rob Roden’s 5 win. Sir John Bayley won away 9-7 at the Bylet, Reece Farr best winner 7 and home captain Cheryl Caswell best for the hosts 11. Ifton also won 11-5 away at Meole Brace. Captain Dickie Jones says “Owen Jackson (best winner 5) and Nick Jones set the tone with single figure wins that saw us lead 3-1. Another 3 winners in the middle had us 45 in front, and the back four all played well with Ieuan Pugh the stand out performance winning 18.” Best winner for Meole was Dave Redge 13.
Hanwood kickstarted their season with a 12-2 victory over Horsehay. Best winner for them was Wayne Phillips 6, with Garry Owen best for the away side 12. St Georges also got their first win of the season, 10-4 over Adderley. The returning Ian Pessall was best winner for them 8, while Ian Howell was best for the Adders winning 3. Burway had a fine 12-2 home win over Wem USC, Richard Lane best winner 7 and Luke Boniface best for the Wem 21-17.
