Four teams remain in the 2025 Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy and are looking to book their place in the final on Saturday.
The finalists from the last three years meet, meaning a repeat in the final will not happen this year as Castlefields meet Sir John Bayley. Castlefields won two of those finals compared to the Bayley’s one, the one in 2023 being the Fields’ only loss in this competition since 2017. Fields captain Steve Peach is “really looking forward to tonight’s semi final against SJB it’s been a right battle with the two of us the last few years and I’m sure tonight will be no different. I’m sure both teams will fancy there chances, not a lot splitting us in the league so I’m sure we’re in for a cracker of a tie and a place in Saturday’s final at stake!” Bayley joint captain Scott Simpson says it is “different circumstances for the first time in 3 years but looking forward to the game as always. It will no doubt be a hard fought game with the best team coming out on top.”
The other semi final sees Hanmer take on Ifton. Ifton have only reached the final once, winning it in 2009, while Hanmer haven’t yet. Hanmer joint skipper Dave Ellison says “a nice local semi final against our local rivals Ifton on a forecasted sunny night is what both teams would have wanted. We go into the game as underdogs but with both teams knowing each other’s greens so well and maybe a bit of run for the first time this season it could all come down to which away team handles it best.” Ifton captain Dickie Jones says “both groups of players know each other well which adds to a good rivalry. They had a good win last round and we are in good form so I’m expecting a close game.”
A reminder that all players must have played one league game for the club this season.
