Week 5 Review

Meole win well, St Georges fightback, Highley back to form

Meole Brace won well in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they beat Adderley 12-2. Captain Chris Jones says “we kicked off with a great start to the match winning 3 tight games which gave us a real foothold in the match. A clean sweep in the middle with some fantastic bowling and but for some brilliant bowling from Jack Hazeldine in another nip and tuck match we would have another clean sweep in the back. A great home result against a very solid and pleasant side.” Best winner for Meole was Russell Pugh 5, while the returning Chris Stretch was best winner 10 for the Adders. St Georges fought back from 3-1 down to Hanwood to win 10-4 in another tight home contest for them. Best winner for them was John Cooke 7, while Phil Lyttle was best for the away side 8. Highley returned back to form with a 11-3 home win over winless Horsehay. They had three 21-5 winners as their best from Jamie Taylor, Dave East and Jacob Ash, while Horsehay also had two single figure winners, Garry Owen the best of them 21-5.

League leaders Sir John Bayley beat Castlefields 9-5 to extend their lead at the top. Scott Simpson was their best winner 9, with Adam Jones and Jon Palmer best for the Fields 11. Wrockwardine Wood leapfrogged their visitors Ifton with a 10-4 victory. Sam Millward and Greg Smith were best winners 8, and April Player of the Month Owen Jackson was best for Ifton 10. Hanmer will be happy with 4 winners at Burway led by Mike Gilpin’s 14 win. Dave Wilding was best for the hosts 2. Bylet managed to beat Wem USC for the first time in three seasons with a 8-6 success over them. John Newey was best winner 5 and Scott Thomas best for Wem 11.

Sir John Bayley are the only unbeaten team in the league now, and lead Wrockwardine Wood by 4 points, who are three ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are the only winless team in the league, and are 12 behind Wem USC and another point behind Hanwood. Owen Jackson leads 7 others on 5 wins this season.
