The Premier League Merit which was held at Coddon Bowling Club on Sunday, was won by James Grimston (Donnington Wood) for the first time. In an exciting and closely fought final, he eventually overcome Craig Richardson (Craven Arms) 21-20. Craig established an early 7-4 lead, only for James to rally to lead 9-7 before Craig went into a 16-11 lead. James then has a break of 8 to lead 19-16, but then Craig scored two singles and a double to lead 20-19 and lay game on, only for James to run the block to save the match and draw level at 20 across. Craig hit James’s closest bowl with his last wood but watched in anguish as it fell out and leave James as the Premier League Merit Winner for 2000 and pick up the first prize of £120, with Craig receiving £60.
