Top Three all win away again, Meole back to form, Burway & Hanmer with fab fives
The top three all won away again in week 10 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Castlefields were again the biggest winners, 13-3 at Adderley, to continue their great away form and please vice captain Jon Palmer. “Another super away performance from us, keeping up our good form. We managed to pinch two winners out of the front four when it looked like it could have been a lot worse (especially when Chris Stretch was playing like prime Gary Ellis for 20 minutes!). The back 8 were pretty faultless, Callum Wraight playing full corners was sight for sore eyes (to be best winner 6)!” Best winner for the home side was Ian Howell 6. Wrockwardine Wood won 12-4 at Highley to keep the pressure on at the top. Skipper Liam Stevens says “another good away win against a solid side who have been competing well this year. Think we benefited a bit from a week of poor weather as the green was holding and friendly – very pleased with 8 winners. The home result against Hanwood was a really bitter blow and we’ve given ourselves tough job – 6 behind Castlefields and realistically 10ish behind SJB. That result aside, really pleased with start – if we play like we have in 10 of the first 11 games so far this year we will somewhere in the mix I think.” Best winner was Liam himself 8, with the home’s best being Dave East 14. Sir John Bayley earned their first win in this league at St Georges in a 12 a side match, 11-5. Best winner was Dan Taylor 10 with Julie Alderman best for St Georges 15.
Meole Brace returned to winning ways with a 11-3 success over Bylet. Captain Chris Jones says “very happy for a good result at home against a team that played well on the night with some green knowledge paying off in the back end of games. Special mention to Rob Renke who bowled very well (to be best winner 12).” Best for Meole was Andy Wigginton 4. Ifton beat Wem USC 10-4 with Ian Jones best winner for them 21-3 and Luke Boniface best for Wem 21-10. Burway and Hanmer got five winners at Hanwood and Horsehay respectively. Hanwood’s best winner was Dave Turner 5, while Burway’s were Richard Lane and Dave Wilding 13. Hanmer’s best was Jacob Jones 8, with Horsehay’s captain Andy Garbett leading the way 21-6.
Castlefields are 6 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood who are 3 ahead of Sir John Bayley, but the Bayley have a game in hand. Horsehay are 3 behind Wem USC and another 2 behind Hanmer, but have played a game more. Scott Simpson leads 3 others on 10 wins.
