Top Three win well again, Highley earn bragging rights, Ifton hammer Hanmer
The top three all won well again in week 11 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Castlefields again were the best, defeating Hanwood 12-2. Best winner was Rhys Marshall 7, with Simon Lane best for Hanwood 15. Wrockwardine Wood beat rivals St Georges 11-3, led by Clay Flattley’s 5 win. John Cooke was the visitor’s best winner 11. Sir John Bayley also won 11-3, but their visitors Horsehay will be the more happy of the two teams. Spokesman Steve Reeves says “it is always a tough place to go to, especially last year when we got whitewashed so to get 3 when we were just happy to improve on last year. With how the games were going it could have been 4. Any points against the top teams are welcome and much needed.” Best winner for them was Jack Clayton 11, with the Bayley’s best being Ayden Smith 4. Another good home win was at Burway who beat Meole Brace 12-2 to continue their great form. Captain Adam Dovey was their best winner 8, with Julian Cooke best for Meole 9.
Highley earned the South Shropshire bragging rights by beating the Bylet 12-4, former Bylet player Jamie Taylor best winner 9, and home captain Cheryl Caswell best for them 7, in a game that had five 21-20 cards, four of them in Highley’s favour. Ifton returned to form with a 13-3 hammering of Hanmer. Skipper Dickie Jones says it was “a very good performance that got us 13 points after a few not so good performances. Joe Langford and Nick Jones both played well to get us off to a good start, young Kian Thomas making his Premier League debut didn’t show any nerves and bowled well to win 9.” Ian Jones was their best winner 6, with the home’s best being Marcus Hughes 9. Adderley will be happy with 5 winners at Wem USC. Philip Jones was best winner 14, while Ian Metcalfe and Sarah Weaver were best for Wem 6.
Castlefields are 7 points ahead of Wrockwardine Wood and another 3 ahead of Sir John Bayley, who have a game in hand. Horsehay are 5 behind Hanmer and another 4 behind Wem USC, who both have a game in hand. Jon Palmer leads Owen Jackson and Reece Farr on 11 wins.
