Bayley close gap, Dragons roar, Highley shock Ifton
Sir John Bayley earned a big win at Burway to close the gap on leaders Castlefields in week 18 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won 13-3 while the Fields beat Bylet 12-4. Bayley captain Scott Simpson says it was a “brilliant performance from us all 1-12. At 7-0, I was happy with getting no more so it was a bonus to come away with 13 and keep the pressure on. We go again with a tough one next week.” Best winner for them was Pete Grimston 9 while Liam Dovey 16 was before the hosts. The best winner for Fields was Ash Wellings 3 with Bylet’s best being Matt Ealey 5. St Georges had their best win of the season with a 13-1 success over Horsehay. Best winner was captain Martin Gaut 6 with John Roberts Jnr the winner for Horsehay 16.
Hanwood enjoyed a good 12-2 win over Adderley. Skipper Simon Lane says “The game started off close with Adderley winning 2 close games in the front 4, we then played well in the middle and back to end up winning 10-2. Game was played in good spirits and we wish Adderley well for the remainder of the season.” Andy Jones was best winner 7 with Ian Howell best for the visitors 18. Meole Brace also enjoyed a good home win 11-3 over Hanmer. Captain Chris Jones says “we finally got that win in after coming close to some great results in recent games, although Hanmer were unlucky in some games on the night and possibly deserved more. It’s unfortunate to now have a two week break before the next game.” Their best winner was Tracey Bound 5 with Colin Jones best for the visitors 11. Highley had a fine 10-4 win over 4th placed Ifton. Best winner was John Heath and Jacob Ash 6, and Ifton’s was Ollie Jones 11. This meant Wrockwardine Wood consolidated 3rd place with a 12-2 win over Wem USC. Sam Millward was their best 8, with Colin Smith best for Wem 10.
Castlefields lead Sir John Bayley by 4 points, with Wrockwardine Wood another 22 points behind. Horsehay are 10 behind Hanmer at the bottom, with Bylet 9 further clear. Scott Simpson is now one win ahead of Owen Jackson and Jon Palmer.
