Ifton end Fields run, Hanwood impress again, Dragons roar
Ifton ended Castlefields’ winning run in week 23 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They beat them 9-5 to breath fresh life into the title race. Captain Dickie Jones says “it was a good game between the two of us. The front was shared with Ash Wellings playing well to win 20. From there on we had 3 single figure winners that sealed the agg for us. Special mention to Joe Langford who battled back to get 18 against Callum Wraight.” Best winner for them was Robin Bennett 3, with the away side’s best being Tom Palmer 13. Sir John Bayley took advantage as they won 10-6 at Adderley. Reece Farr and Paul Evans were best winners 11 for them, with Chris Stretch best for the home side 8. Hanwood impressed again as they beat Wrockwardine Wood 11-3, meaning they’ve took 22 points off Wrockwardine this season, the most of any team. Vice-captain Mark Parsons says “it was a fairly comfortable win, on a surprisingly holding green, with Hanwood winning the two close games which helped make it a well earned home win, against a very tough opponent in Wrockwardine Wood. A great result for us keeping up our recent strong form and grip on 5th place.” The best winner for them was Phil Lyttle 9, with Steve Broome best for the visitors 11. It was a better result considering the two teams below them lost away. Burway got just 2 winners at St Georges, led by Duncan Pressley winning 18. Julie Alderman was best winner for the Dragons 21-12 who have given themselves an outside chance now of a top half finish. Skipper Martin Gaut says “we were chuffed with a fantastic 12–2 home win over Burway, a side above us in the league table. The front four, which we won 3–1, was very tight—the lowest scoring card across all four games was 17. After one more narrow loss in the middle, we finished with a clean sweep in the back four. A brilliant all-round performance, and with our win at Highley still fresh, we head into next week’s away fixture with a bit of momentum to try to test the team currently keeping second place warm: Sir John Bayley.” Highley got just 4 winners at Meole Brace. Meole’s best winners were Tracy Bound and Will Tyler 13, while for the visitors it was Jamie Taylor 10. Wem USC had a great away win at Hanmer 12-4 to move level with St Georges in 8th. Sarah Weaver was best winner 8, and Dave Ellison best winner 14 for the hosts.
Castlefields are 9 clear of Sir John Bayley and another 25 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are 15 behind Hanmer who are another 8 behind the Bylet. Scott Simpson is 3 wins ahead of Owen Jackson, and had his consecutive wins ended at 11, joining 4 others on the same number!
