Fields face one last hurdle, Bayley aim for massive win, Telford Derby
Castlefields face one last hurdle in week 25 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They travel to Hanwood, a place they lost 10-4 last season. Captain Steve Peach says “we know the importance of getting a good result against our local rivals, we had a bad result here last year so we’re looking to improve on that, we have a couple missing from Fridays team so a couple of changes are required but the lads are bang up for it and hopefully put us in a good position for the last game of the season.” Home skipper Simon Lane is still aiming to finish 5th, and with a 9 point gap to Burway below them a home win here should seal it. “we are looking forward to hosting Castlefields for our last home game of the season. Castlefields have been class all season managing to hold off the constant challenge from SJB. We want to give the champions elect a tough game and finish our home campaign strong.” Sir John Bayley travel to bottom side Horsehay, knowing a massive win is needed to try and close the 10 point gap at the top of the table. Horsehay know they need a win themselves to stave off finishing bottom this week, but will mentally be preparing themselves for the Play Off.
There is a Telford derby as St Georges host neighbours Wrockwardine Wood. St Georges can still get 8th, but will need a win tonight to do so. Wrockwardine are locked in 3rd place, but will still want to get bragging rights over their rivals. Captain Liam Stevens says “looking forward to tomorrow night against our rivals and many close friends. Nothing for either of us to play for aside from a winter of being bragging nuisances – but we’d love to have that in our back pocket of course if we can pinch it. Rumours have reached me that St Georges have rustled a few quid together for a mower and rediscovered the lost art of cutting grass this year – hoping it hasn’t been pencilled in for its annual maintenance.” Wem USC are in 8th at the moment and travel to Adderley knowing a win there could put them in pole position. Adderley will want to protect 11th from Bylet and Hanmer below them with a home win here, especially given the two below are away. Bylet go to neighbours Highley, who need a win themselves to help finish top half. Hanmer go to Ifton who will finish 4th and will want to try and finish the season on a high. Meole Brace will want a good home win over Burway to move above Wem USC in 8th, who they travel to next week. Burway will be wanting to try and bridge the gap with Hanwood in 5th above and keep above Highley in 7th as they look for their best finish in the league.
