Highley go top, Ifton stun Bayley, Hanwood win away

Highley are top of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League for the first time after winning at Bylet in week 1. It is also their biggest away win in the league, with Kris Johnson, Phil Chester and Stuart Gittings best winners 10. Lisa Wilson was best winner 19 on her Premier League debut for Bylet. Ifton stunned Sir John Bayley 12-2 to please captain Dickie Jones. “A great win to start the season with all our players playing well, Paul Evans played well to win 6 (to be their best winner). We managed to win all the close games which is a massive help when playing quality opposition.” Best winner for them was Ian Jones 13. Hanwood had a great start to win 12-4 at Adderley. Skipper Jon Mansell says it was a “very good result for us on Friday, the boys dug in and got a few more points than expected. It was a good start for us with 3 players and 2 captains missing. Darren Wellings with arguably the best perfomance of the night, Darren seems keen this year and a keen Darren is a definite county player. A good comeback by dangerous Dave Turner too. Overall all very good and if we keep this form up i fully expect us to be top of the league after 6 games.” Ade Jennings was best winner for the home side 9.

Castlefields had a solid start to their title defence with a 12-2 victory over Burway. Tom Palmer led the way 21-1, with Adam Dovey best for the visitors 15. Woore also had a good start to their first campaign in the league as they beat Hanmer 11-3. Liam Jones was best winner 2, while Matt Beeston was best winner for the away side 7. Wrockwardine Wood fought back from 5-3 down at Wem USC to win 11-5, Josh Cotton best winner 11. Luke Boniface was best winner 10 for the hosts. St Georges beat Meole Brace 9-5 and by 10 chalks in the closest match of the night. Captain Tony Rhodes led the way 21-10, with Craig Wilson best for Meole by the same score.
