Bayley & Meole whitewashes, Wrockites stun Ifton
Sir John Bayley and Meole Brace both earned whitewashes in week 2 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as all the home teams won. Sir John Bayley defeated Adderley, with vice-captain Spencer Clarke saying “Ifton were superb the week before but on the back of that result it was important we delivered a response and the lads truly obliged with a full house. I thought Dan Taylor was exceptional and both Joe Dicken and Owen Evans showed great battling qualities. A big shout out to all involved who have worked hard on improving the green over the past few weeks, it played well on Friday. We wish Adderley all the best for the remainder of the season.” Best winner for them was Nick Wyer 4. Meole beat Bylet to earn their biggest win in the league ever. Skipper Chris Jones says “A very good home win last night for us, started very strongly with all four front winners, tougher tests came in the middle with a close game just tipping in our favour thanks to some fantastic woods from Will Tyler to get over the line, with the back four also getting the job done for a very good result.” Best winners for them was Julian Cooke, Chris Jones and James Weaver 21-7. Castlefields nearly completed the third whitewash of the night but Gary Beff prevented Woore going home empty handed as he won 13. Best winner for Fields was Callum Wraight 5.
Wrockwardine Wood stunned Ifton as they beat them 13-1. Captain Liam Stevens says “Delighted with the score, I would have taken a narrow win at the start of the night with the side Ifton have got and having seen their result the week before. I think the result robbed them a fair bit in honesty and Ifton can reasonably feel hard done by, they played miles better than 1 point – we squeezed out every close card and had a couple win from a few behind – but those are great habits to get into and we will look to rob a few more in the season ahead.” Best winner for them was Josh Cotton 10, with the winner for Ifton being Craig Griffiths 14. Highley and Hanwood continued their unbeaten starts with home wins. Highley beat Wem USC 10-4, Dave Scriven best winner 9 for them and Luke Boniface best for Wem 11. Hanwood defeated St Georges as Dave Turner was best winner 3 for them and Nigel Evans 15 for the away side. Hanmer got a 10-4 win over Burway with Jacob Jones best winner 9 and Dave Wilding best for the visitors 4, with a special mention to junior Jack Lawrence winning on his debut 19.
