Castlefields look to reach a record 7th consecutive Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy Final as they take on Wrockwardine Wood, who have only reached two finals and never won the competition. Skipper Steve Peach says “we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s semi final with Wrockwardine, who themselves have started the season very well. I’m sure it will be a very close game with both teams looking for decent home wins, the weather has been fairly good so we expect Wrockwardine to be a bit slick and look forward to the challenge we face. This is followed by a tough trip to the Bayley on Friday so a big week for us.” Opposition captain Liam Stevens knows it is a “really difficult task ahead of us tomorrow. We have played well so far this year but this will be a different test. Castlefields have a brilliant side, including several who are really difficult to shift on Wrockwardine Wood. It is a trophy we have never won, and one that hasn’t seen us in the final for 23 years – so we are keen to deliver a club first if we can.”
The other Semi Final sees two teams who have never reached the finals. Highley have won the Pool B before but have only got to the Semis of this competition, back in 2019, while for Sinclair this is their first time entering and could make history as being the first non Premier League club to make the final. Captain Harry Church is “looking forward to the game against another good Premier League side and we are hoping to cause another upset.”
