Wrockwardine surprise Woore, Hanwood win well, Ifton bounce back
Wrockwardine Wood surprised league newcomers Woore with a 12-4 victory there in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Liam Stevens says “we weren’t really sure what to expect going to Woore, though we for sure felt we were second favourites. There was a moment in the front four when we looked certain to go 4-0 down, so to steal a 3-1 from there was a great start. Really enjoyable game overall with both sides generating a positive atmosphere. I can imagine that green being a real weapon in the coming years once it gets a bit smoother. Overall delighted with the win, I don’t think many sides will get much change out of their visit.” Rob Roden was best winner 9 for them with Carl Hinton best for the home side 2. Hanwood went one better winning 13-3 at Bylet to record their biggest ever away points haul in the league. Joint skipper Jon Mansell comments on a “great away performance again from the team taking the first 8 games. Bylet rallied in the back to get three points on the board. Hayden Lewis and David Payne (best winner 8) got us off to a great start, with Hayden proving why he is still the best under 30 bowler in Shropshire and the two Wellings battling to get over the line to give us the perfect start. David Burton had a close game just to pip Tim Ealey in the game of the night in the middle. In the back Cheryl Caswell played very well to beat Mark Shore (12 to be best winner) despite a late rally. We are doing very well after 2 players have decided not to play for us again, Shaun Bould is a great loss and I wish him all the best. With a home game Friday we are still in the title race and will be gunning for the big boys after that.”
Ifton drew at Wem USC but won 9-7 in points to please captain Dickie Jones. “We hadn’t won at Wem for a while so it was a pleasing result after two disappointing results away and hopefully now we can go on a good run. Craig Griffiths kept his good run going to win 21-7 and Geraint Williams 21-6 sealed the win for us (to be best winner as well).” Sarah Weaver and Luke Boniface were the best winners for Wem 4. Sir John Bayley defeated Castlefields 9-5 to inflict their first loss of the season. Scott Simpson was their best winner 3, with Callum Wraight best for the Champions 5. Adderley won their first game of the season as they beat Hanmer 9-5. Darren Palin was best winner 1 for them and Luke Grocott best for the away side 10. Highley bounced back from losing at home last week to win 9-7 at Meole Brace. Dave East was their best winner 7 with Mark Thomas best 13 for the hosts. Burway defeated St Georges 11-3 to continue their good home form, led by Carl Bowen winning 6. Chris Ward and Ian Gaut were best winners for the Dragons 17.
Castlefields lead Wrockwardine Wood by 1, with Sir John Bayley another 4 behind. Bylet are 3 behind Adderley, who are 9 adrift of St Georges. Callum Wraight leads 5 others on 5 wins.
