Bayley get redemption, Wrockites set record, Hanwood keep form up
Sir John Bayley got redemption in week 6 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League after winning 14-2 at Hanmer, a place where they lost last year. Captain Reece Farr says “last year’s result here wasn’t great for us and we are happy to go and get a superb result there this year, green was a bit different to when we played it last year though! We set the tone from the start going 3-1 up, Paul Evans coming from well down to winning, Jackie playing superbly against Lee Peate and myself having a decent start. The back 8 bounced off this and banged in a great 7 out of 8 winners, Chris Dodds being the loser who played really well on his debut in the prem, not bad for a player who has only played for 2 years!” Scott Simpson was best winner 6 for them, with Hanmer’s best being Matt Beeston 5. Wrockwardine Wood set a new record after limiting Bylet to 102 chalks in a 14-0 victory which puts them top of the league, the biggest win the league has seen! Skipper Liam Stevens says “One where we were hoping to post a big win and we managed to. The closest game was Josh Cotton fighting back admirably from 10-1 down to win 18. Keeps us in the hunt before a really tough three weeks ahead of us – let’s see how we deal with those and what shape we are in entering June.” Steve Faulkner was their best winner 4. Castlefields dropped down to second despite a fine 12-2 win over Meole Brace led by Tom Palmer’s 4 win. For Meole it was Tracy Bound best winner 14.
Hanwood kept up their good start with a 11-3 victory over Burway. Joint skipper Jon Mansell says it was a “great win for us against a tricky Burway side with the front four showing their experience for a clean sweep. Middle four were again very good with Dave Burton and Rich Lawson playing very well against 2 of their strongest players. Back four Burway battled back but overall a good result and if we can get the results on the back four we can go deep in this league as at the moment I can’t see anyone beating us in the front 8. We go to the Bayley Friday beaming with confidence and i believe we can cause a big upset” Hayden Lewis was their best winner 7 and Paul Williams best for the away side 9. Wem USC got a good 6 winners at St Georges, Gareth Davies best winner 2 for them and Martin Gaut best for the hosts 3. Highley kept up their good form with a 11-3 victory over Adderley led by Bruno Heath’s 7 win. Connor Whitehall was best for Adderley 21-2. Ifton also won 11-3 over Woore. Robin Bennett was their best winner 7 with Gary Beff best for Woore 10.
Wrockwardine Wood lead Castlefields by 1 and Sir John Bayley by another 3. Bylet trail Adderley by 6, who are 12 adrift of Burway. There are four players on 6 wins; Tom Palmer, Callum Wraight, Darren Wellings and Clay Flattley.
