Fields stun leaders, Bayley go top, Woore bounce back
Castlefields stunned the leaders Wrockwardine Wood in week 8 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Skipper Steve Peach says it was “a fantastic away performance from the lads, we were really good on and off the green and was bang up for it from the off. There were some really good performances, Ash Wellings beating Liam Stevens at number 1 was a great game, Mike Beer played well to beat Tom Killen who had beaten him the last couple of times and I thought Rich Goddard played really well for 13 against Clay Flattley who was very good. Glyn Herbert played well for us in the middle to get us in front on the aggregate then we managed to win 3 of the back four this week which helped us get over the line for a very good away win!” Sir John Bayley have gone top with their biggest ever win at St Georges, 13-3, which is St Georges’ biggest loss at home. Vice-captain Spencer Clarke was “pleased to come away with a good points haul to ensure we keep tabs on the top two. Special mention to Mike Wainwright who was excellent for the Dragons and Chris Dodds for us, who looks very comfortable at this level. We wish the Dragons all the best for the remainder of the season.” Stuart Rutter was their best winner 3, with Chris Ward best for the home side 7. Woore bounced back from that shock home loss to Wem on Wednesday with a 12-4 win at Burway. Skipper Dan Hand said “after our set back on Wednesday we were determined to fight for every point and we did just that. From the very off we got behind each other and although we went 3-1 down we were in every game. To win 7 of the last 8 showed what we are capable of. Not many sides will come to Burway and leave with the win.” Best winner for them was Gary Beff 5, with Jack Lawrence best for Burway 9.
Hanwood beat their neighbours Meole Brace 10-4 led by captain Jon Mansell’s 4 win. Mark Thomas was best for Meole 14. Adderley will be happy with their 5 winners at Ifton with Garry Owen best winner 8. Leighton Roberts was best for Ifton 5. Bylet will also be happy with 3 winners at Wem USC, Rob Renke the best of them 16. Wem’s best were Gareth Davies and Darren Fitzpatrick 21-3. Hanmer edged out Highley 8-6 and by 7 chalks in the closest game of the night. Matt Beeston was best winner for them 4, with Danny Statham the best for the visitors by the same scoreline.
Sir John Bayley are 3 ahead of Castlefields, who are another two ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Bylet are 7 behind Adderley, and another 10 behind Burway. Tom Palmer and Clay Flattley are on 8 wins apiece.
