First & Third clash, Shrewsbury Derby, Dragons aim to tame Bayley
The top two clash in week 8 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. League leaders Wrockwardine Wood host Castlefields with just four points separating the side. Wrockwardine captain Liam Stevens says “Castlefields are the best side in the league and typically play our green really well, with a number of people who are outstanding on it. With how we have been playing I’m hoping tomorrow will be a real advert for the premier league. Looking forward to it and hoping we do enough edge a few more points in front.” Castlefields skipper Steve Peach says “we travel down the M54 knowing the importance of tonight’s game, Wrockwardine have been flying as of late so will be a really tough challenge one that the boys are bang up for, we dipped out here last year by 1 so it’s not impossible but we need to improve on last week’s performance to stand a chance and to keep pace at the top with them and the Bayley.” The Bayley are sandwiching the two sides at the moment and will be looking for a decent win at St Georges to take advantage of any close game between them two. The Dragons are currently 11th and will be looking to cause an upset to start to move up the table. Hanwood are still 4th despite just one winner at Sir John Bayley, and host Meole Brace in a Shrewsbury derby. Hanwood skipper Jon Mansell says “this week we have the Shrewsbury based mid table Elclassico after last week disaster of a result against SJB where we should of picked up 8 points. I have took the advice of the Southampton management team and had Phil Lyttle hiding in a bush spying on the Meole Brace players on Wednesday. We have the 2 in-form players in the league coming back in our team in Hayden Lewis and Dave Payne so I expect nothing less than an 11-3 result.” Meole skipper Chris Jones says “we go down the road to our nearest neighbours on the back of a solid home result last week, against another team going well this year and we go looking to put in solid performance away.”
Wem USC will look to back up their win at Woore with a good home win over Bylet, who have had just one winner so far from their three away games. Woore will look to bounce back but make their longest trip of the season to Burway, a team that has done well at home so far this season, albeit they’ve only had two home games so far. There is another long trip as Hanmer host Highley, both teams coming off good results last week, although Hanmer will be wanting a response to having only two winners last home game. Ifton host Adderley looking to continue their winning run, while Adderley will be hoping green knowledge will help them!
