Wem face another tough test, Fields look to repeat, Wrockites look to bounce back
Wem USC face another tough test within 2 days of tackling the Champions Castlefields on Wednesday in week 10 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League when they take on Sir John Bayley. Captain Curtis Metcalfe knows it is “another difficult game tomorrow night for us on the back of Wednesday’s game against Castlefields. Despite only getting 4 points, coming close in 5 games as well, was disappointing for us but hopefully tonight we will be able to turn around them close games and get a win overall on the night. It will be another very difficult night against one of the league’s top sides but we are up for the challenge.” Castlefields will aim to build on that win when they travel to Hanwood, where they won 16-0 last season, but know it would be a monumental effort to repeat that feat. Hanwood captain Jon Mansell says “we were very unlucky last week not to get the win at Highley which wasn’t helped by me somehow bringing an odd set of bowls with me. But anyway this week they are not as strong as last year and have had 3 games in 7 days. We are going to be resting 3 of our players for the big games after this one! This game is the day before Ash Wellings’ wedding day which we all wish him all the very best (Judas!) and even more fitting is that he could be playing the man to walk him down the aisle in Glyn! I hope for a good game and we will win at least 9-5.”
Wrockwardine Wood will be looking to bounce back from two straight defeats when they take on Hanmer, who got a good 3 winners last week at Castlefields. Burway will be glad of a home game after just 3 at home so far this season. They take on Meole Brace who have only won one out of their last five games. Ifton are unbeaten in 6 games and will be looking for a good home win over Highley, with Highley having been involved in single figure aggregates in their last three games. Woore take on Bylet looking to build on their last game, an away win at Burway, but did lose their last home game against Wem. Most if not all Bylet’s players will not have seen Woore before so will have their work cut out to get many winners. Adderley are the team above Bylet and will be going to a more familiar green in St Georges, who will be buoyed by a big win last week at the Bylet.
