Top two clash, North Shropshire Derby, Ifton & Burway aim to push
The top two clash in week 19 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Castlefields lead Sir John Bayley by 9 points and know a win will make them favourites to land a third successive crown. Captain Steve Peach knows it is a “massive game for us this evening knowing a good result could put us in a really good position to make it 3 league titles on the spin. But we know the Bayley will have other ideas and will be trying to get a good result to get themselves back into contention sets it up for a cracker of a game.” Opposition skipper Reece Farr says ” we go head to head with our league rivals Castlefields, its always tough going there, but its always guaranteed to be a top level match! Castlefields have quite a healthy lead on us in the table and with 8 games to go, this game is crucial in the league stage, so we will be looking at put in a performance and going close again like last year!” Wrockwardine Wood in 3rd will try and capitalise on any Bayley win as they host Woore, who themselves are now 5th and will want to stay there.
Ifton beat Burway 9-5 to move 15 clear of Woore in 4th, best winner being Dickie Jones 10, with Paul Williams best for Burway by the same score. They now host Wem USC looking to better that score, with Wem knowing a good end to the season could mean a top half finish. Burway will hope to build on that five points as they travel to St Georges, who are currently 6 points below them in 13th place. Hanmer and Adderley sandwich those two teams, and meet at Hanmer with both teams now looking to move into the top 10 rather than looking at the bottom. Bottom side Bylet travel to Hanwood knowing the hosts will be expecting a big win over them to help their quest for 5th place. Highley host Meole Brace with just 4 points between them, both teams could still earn a top 5 finish being 5 and 9 points behind Woore respectively.
