Top Three earn big home wins, Ifton impress
The top three in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League all won 13-1 to maintain their positions at the top of the league. Meole Brace maintained their lead with an impressive 13-1 win over Hadley USC, with only Rob Burroughs preventing the whitewash winning 12 and the MVP. They never looked back after home MVP Darren Wellings beat Dave Price in the game of the night in the first four to lead 4-0 and then 8-0 after Doug Edwards edged out Nick Wyer and Andy Wigginton was the best winner winning 6. Mark Thomas then edged out Ash Gregory 18 in the last game of the night to give Meole an excellent win. 2nd placed St Georges repeated the trick against Burway, with Mark Rogers was the only winner, beating Jim Kellett 19 to earn the MVP award. Mike Wainwright got a very impressive win over Wayne Rogers 6 to get the MVP award, and Alan Palin won 5 to be the best winner. 3rd placed and champions Newport kept up the pressure against Archibald Worthington as John Digby was the only winner for the Archie boys, but Alan Ball was their MVP as he got 16 off Dave Rhodes. Newport’s best winner was Alan Davidson who won 3 and the MVP award.
Fourth placed Castlefields lost ground on the top three as they were comfortably beaten by Ifton, not helped by being without Callum Wraight and Dave Peach. But Ifton are impressing this season and led 3-1 with Nikki Jones being best winner 5 and Leighton Roberts, who was excellent according to home captain Dickie Jones, earning the MVP over the in form Paul Williams But Castlefields fought back winning two out of the middle four, both single figures, Clay Flattley 9 and the MVP, and Rich Goddard 8. However Ifton grounded out the other two games, Simon Tyler and Andrew Hughes to 18 for a 5-3 lead and then took the whole of the back four. Dickie was impressed with Adam Price and Keiron Roberts with their wins at the back and said Geriant Williams was lucky to get out 20 at number 12 to seal an “excellent win” for the home side.
Bowring got the most away points of the night getting 5 down Haygate Road at the Bayley, especially after the Bayley took the first four with “some very tight bowling” according to Bowring skipper Rich Lawson. But Rich and Rob Roden both won in the middle for Bowring, Rich being the joint best winner winning 12, and then they took three out of the back four, led by George Williams’ 12 win against Tom Roden. Jack France won 18 against Ben Hudson in a battle of the young guns and MVP Mark Taylor won 19 against Paul Reeves with Rich commenting that “Mark played a host of brilliant bowls to edge out Paul.” He was also “very pleased with the return against a tough team.”
Chester Road got a very good win 12-2 win over Bylet, with home captain Martin Lloyd “very happy with a good win on a difficult paced green, which could have been a full house with two close losers too.” He was impressed with Brian Walters winning 19 for the MVP award and Kevin Brazier was best winner 17 for the visitors. The best winner for the home side was Andrew Moss 6, whilst Paul Williams was decent in winning the home MVP winning 9. It could have been 3 for the away side as Rob Steventon got 19, Martin Lloyd having to beat an 8 inch lead to win the game.
Wem USC have quietly moved up to 4th in the table with a solid 10-4 home result over Wrockwardine Wood. Derek Wright gave Josh Cotton a tour of the green winning 8 for the best win, whilst Scott Thomas got MVP for beating Tom Langford 18. Andrew Jones returned from his marathon exploits to be best winner 15 and earn the MVP award, whilst there were 18 wins for Phil Clee and Rob Jones, and Andy Marshall won 19 on his Wrockites debut.
The top three remain the same, whilst Wem USC have moved up to 4th ahead of Ifton. Bylet remain 14th, but did gain a point on Archibald Worthington.
