Newport look to take advantage as Meole take on St Georges and bottom two meet
1st takes on 3rd in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League this week as leaders Meole Brace take on St Georges. Meole Brace have been inspired at home this season including two 13 1 wins. But St Georges have enjoyed an excellent start although captain Tony Rhodes knows “it will be a tough test as they’ve had a great start. As in every game I always expect points home or away but Meole is one of them places where we’ve gone before hopeful of a return, but drive back to Telford with our tails between our legs. However we have surprised ourselves occasionally so in essence I know we have the quality to win games there but honestly who knows!”
Newport will look to take advantage with another home game against Ifton. The champions have been imperious at home, winning 13 1 and 11 3 twice and 14 0 too so Ifton will have their work cut out. But Ifton first play tonight at home to Archibald Worthington in a rearranged game, and skipper Dickie Jones “is looking for a repeat of the Hadley result, (which was 12 2) but know that Archie know our green better so it’s going to be difficult. Then on Friday we know going to Newport will be difficult but a repeat of any of our results away from home this season we would take.” Archibald Worthington have a good record at Ifton, winning there a couple of times in recent years. And Archie spokesman John Digby “is looking to pick up a few points there.” But the bigger game for the Archie boys is on Friday when they take on the only team below them in Bylet. Archie have been decent at home this season and John “is looking for a good result” in their crunch game. Bylet have struggled away but their 5 at Ifton will fill them with hope they can get a good score there and keep in touch with Archie.
The team just above Archie and Bylet, Hadley USC, will be looking for home comforts against Chester Road. Chester Road have been consistent away getting 4 from most games, and will look for a similar return at the Huskies. Wem USC have slipped lately from 4th to 4th bottom after only getting 1 on tough trips to Newport and Meole Brace but will looking to move up the table with a home clash against the Bayley. But the Bayley have picked up and are on a 5 match winning streak so will be looking to continue that run although will be hard pushed against a Wem side who haven’t lost at home in 18 months.
Castlefields have began to pick up their form recently but face a Bowring side who gained a good 12 2 home win last week over Bylet. Bowring’s away form and Castlefield’s home form has been mixed though so this could go either way. Completing this week’s fixtures are two teams who have been in form this season, Wrockwardine Wood and Burway, who are 6th and 5th respectively. both having great results in recent weeks so should be a good quality contest down at the Wrockites.
