With the Alan Mayhew Final just one day away, we look at the first team to reach the final, Burway.
Burway entered the Premier League in 2012 after finally winning their fourth attempt at reaching the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League by beating Hadley USC in a thrilling playoff by 6 shots at Archibald Worthington. They’ve not looked back since then, finishing 7th in their debut season and also reaching the semi final of the Alan Mayhew but topped that all by winning the Pool B final against Ifton again at Archibald Worthington. Wayne Rogers also won the Neville Edwards Trophy for the most wins in a season to make it a debut season to remember. In their second season they reached the Pool B final again, but lost to Wrockwardine Wood. However they finished 7th again, finishing with 4 points more. But their greatest night came when they reached the County Cup final for the first time, even th0ugh they lost to Newport by 40 chalks at Reman. This season they have started excellently, reaching 5th place in the league after 12 games and the Semi Final of the County Cup too. But they have also reached the Alan Mayhew Final for the first time, and here’s how they got there.
1st round vs. Wrockwardine Wood
Burway edged past Wrockwardine Wood by 15 shots as despite two 9 losers in the first three games at Wrockwardine, they fought back excellently with the two Rogers’ winning 16 to limit the damage to just 16. At Burway they had 5 winners with the two Partridges leading the way, son Josh 8 and father Jolyon 9, to win by 31 at home and 15 overall.

Quarter Finals vs. Hanwood
Burway edged out Hanwood in the quarters in a thriller by three chalks. Burway restricted Hanwood to a 7 shot win at home with 3 winners each. Lewis Rogers beat county player Wayne Phillips 12 in a big card for Burway, whilst Russell Davies and Kiah Roberts both won too, the former running out from 19-15 down last on which proved vital in the end. At Burway Hanwood did well to restrict them to a 10 shot win but wasn’t enough. Burway had 4 winners, Kevin Dovey was the best winning 9, Jolyon Partridge 14, Ben Allen 18 and Len Lewis 20, despite a fine comeback from opponent Phil Lyttle who was game on at 20 across last on the green.
