Top two at home, Bayley & St Georges face tough trips
The top two of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League both face matches at home this week with leaders Newport entertaining Bowring and second placed Meole Brace playing Bylet. Newport will fancy a good result against the Bowring who have only scored 5 points there over the last four years. Meole Brace find themselves without 3 players from last Friday but will still be confident of a good home win over the Bylet who have only scored more than 2 there once since their return in the league in 2007. Archibald Worthington also find themselves away at Wrockwardine Wood, but don’t have a bad record there scoring 3 at least in the last 6 seasons.
Three fixtures feature teams in the top nine, with the higher placed teams all away. 3rd placed Sir John Bayley face a tough trip to 8th placed Chester Road. They lost 13-1 last week at Castlefields, a result which the scorecard suggest they didn’t deserve. Captain Martin Lloyd knows they “need to put last weeks game behind us a match where we deserved a lot more but didn’t get it. Our home performances have been good so another one tomorrow night will put us back on track.” Chester Road have been good at home despite three defeats but the Bayley won there last year with 5 winners and skipper Tom Roden says “Wednesday’s good result will make us positive but it will be a test there as we’ve had mixed results.” Over in Oswestry 7th placed Ifton take on the team one point and place above them, St Georges. Ifton captain Dicky Jones knows it will be a tough game as “St Georges are having a good season so we expect a tough game. We have three players out from last week’s disappointing result with Leighton Roberts, Kevin Nicholas and Geraint Williams coming in so we need to win if we are to maintain our top six place.” St Georges have a good record there, getting 6 winners last year and winning 11-3 the two seasons before that so will be hopeful they could stay above their hosts. The final game of the night sees 9th placed Wem USC play 4th placed Burway. The two results between these two teams has been 10-4 so will it be for a third team or will either team produce a better result?
