Archie look to build advantage, could Newport seal title?
Heading into the penultimate week of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League and there are still major issues to be solved. It is a case of when rather than if Newport are crowned 2015 champions. They need to beat Meole’s score by 3 to be crowned. But Newport face maybe their toughest home task of the season as they take on 3rd placed Sir John Bayley. Bayley have a good record at Newport recently, scoring 6 there last year and 4 and 5 the years before that, so they could be hard pushed to win the league tomorrow. But Meole also face a tough task against Ifton, a team that has won there as recently as 2012, and a team pushing for the top three. Captain Dickie Jones says “we want to finish as high as we can and to achieve that we need a good result won’t be easy as Meole need one as well.”
The biggest issue is who will finish bottom and face the dreaded playoff. At the moment Bylet are above Archibald Worthington by two points, but face a tough trip to Castlefields who still need to make sure they finish top 6 for the 21st consecutive season. Archie though face a tough task against St Georges who are aiming for top three and know they need to win to be favourites heading into the last week. Archie know they need to win to be ahead of Bylet by a few points as last game they face a tough trip to Burway whilst Bylet host 12th placed Hadley USC. So it could be a crucial night for the Archie and Dragon men.
Wrockwardine Wood after last week’s stunning result at Burway will aim to keep their top three hopes alive as they host Bowring, a team who won there last season. This could also be crucial in who wins the Most Improved team as Wrockwardine Wood are 30 points ahead of last year’s total and Bowring 26 so whoever wins tomorrow will be hoping to challenge Ifton, who are also 30 better off, to win the £50 first prize it offers. Burway will be looking to bounce back as they travel to Hadley USC, a place where they won 9-5 last season. But with the dry weather it might mean Hadley will have the green to their liking. Wem USC and Chester Road are two teams who have not matched last year’s heights and the two meet at Wem tonight.
