Well done to Newport who tonight won the 2015 Flowfit Shropshire Premier League title for the fifth time on the bounce, a record for the league, beating Castlefields’ 4 on the bounce from 1995-1998. They won 11-3 against Sir John Bayley tonight and with Meole Brace’s 9-5 defeat at home to Ifton means they are 18 ahead with one game left. This also means Ifton are 3rd, only 5 behind Meole Brace and 3 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood in 4th, 6 ahead of Sir John Bayley and 7 ahead of St Georges, and 9 ahead of Castlefields. With 2nd-4th all away and 5th-7th all at home it promises to be a fascinating battle for places in the top 6 and a place in the Pool A competition.
Things are even more interesting at the bottom now given Archibald Worthington’s 11-3 home win over St Georges. This coupled with Bylet’s 2 at Castlefields means they have a 7 point advantage going into the last game. But with Archie having a tough trip to Burway, and Bylet at home to Hadley USC, it means it’s not all over at all.
We have had another team wish to join the league in the 2016 season. Hanmer have applied again, not being strangers to the playoffs having been in them the last three years. They have won the Market Drayton League tonight and so join Hanwood as confirmed competitors in the playoff. Donnington Wood have moved a step closer tonight to win the Mid-Shropshire League as they are now 13 clear with two games left.
The first of possible three playoff games in a round robin, if Donnington win the league, will take place between Hanwood and Hanmer on Friday 18th September at 7 p.m. on St Georges Bottom Green. I know this clashes with the last games of the Premier League season and with the Mid-Shropshire league but this was the only date before the week before the Playoff final that both teams were free, so apologies for those unable to watch. But there are two more possible pre-playoff games to play, most likely on the Tuesday 29th September , Wednesday 30th September or Thursday 1st October before the final on Friday 2nd October, that people can come and watch.
