Comments:
Castlefields struggled to get going this season in the league but a County Cup success means they achieved their aim for the season. They looked like they might drop out of the top 6 for the first time ever in the league but good home form in the second half of their campaign meant they finished 5th. It started well with a 9-5 win at Chester Road but this was a false dawn as they struggled past Hadley USC 9-5 by one chalk, then despite beating Newport 10-4 they only got 3 at Ifton and Sir John Bayley and only 4 winners at home to Meole Brace, however they won the aggregate. But then they won at Bylet 8-6 and then got 25 points at home to the two Whitchurch clubs but then suffered 2 11-3 defeats at Hadley USC and Wrockwardine Wood, the latter with only 11 players. But their form picked up with 67 points from their last 6 home games and a fantastic 9-5 win at Meole Brace meant they earned a top 6 place.
They didn’t win a game in either league competition, gaining a walkover against Hanmer and then losing by 23 to Meole Brace in the Alan Mayhew and withdrew from the Pool A due to cup commitments.
