Comments:
Sir John Bayley overcame a poor start to achieve their season’s aim, finishing top four and winning silverware in the Pool A. They had a good first game getting 6 at Wrockwardine Wood but some poor results followed, getting 2 at Burway amongst three poor results at home. But after winning 8-6 at Bylet, they won again at Hadley 10-4, sandwiching two 11-3 home wins, before getting 5 and 6 at Wem USC and Meole Brace respectively to move them up the table. However their poor home form returned though, only winning their next three games 9-5, but did win 9-5 at Chester Road. Their form though dived a little when getting 3 at Bowring and 2 at Ifton, but some decent home results followed, 45 points from their last four games just about sealed 4th by a point, despite blowing a 5-1 lead at Archibald Worthington.
They didn’t win a game in the Alan Mayhew, gaining a walkover against Ifton then conceding the game against Chester Road after losing by 36 away. But in the Pool A they had a bye into the Semis, beat Meole Brace by 32 and then defeated Ifton on their own top green in the final by 18, overcoming an early first four deficit.
