Comments:
It was another season for Meole Brace that promised so much but ended with another 2nd placed finish, their 4th on the bounce. They started well though and with Newport having a poor start were a few points ahead at the top. After winning 12-2 at Bylet and then 11-3 at Wrockwardine Wood they suffered a shock 10-4 loss at Archibald Worthington, but bounced back to inflict two 13-1 wins over the two USC clubs, Hadley and Wem, with 8 winners at Castlefields in between. After coming back from 3-1 down against Newport to win 9-5 they led them by 7 points, but after failing to take advantage of a week off for the Champions by getting 3 at Ifton, Newport seemed to be in the driving seat. Meole lost their lead at the top in Week 14 despite winning 8-6 at Bowring and never got back there. They struggled to rediscover their early home form only beating Archie 10-4 and Burway 9-5 before a home defeat by Castlefields 9-5 saw their title challenge effectively over. They did push Newport close the week after, being 5-5 and up by a couple of shots but lost both games and the aggregate. They got a brief glimmer of hope after beating Chester Road 10-4 to close the gap to 11 points but this was extinguished after narrow defeats at St Georges and Ifton. They only just about finished 2nd as captain Mark Thomas won last on 20 in the last match to seal it on games won!
They reached the semi finals of the Alan Mayhew and Pool A, beating Bowring and Castlefields in the Mayhew before losing to Newport by 44, and having a bye into the semis before losing to Sir John Bayley by 32.
