Comments:

Newport made history this season becoming the first club to win 5 titles on the bounce. It wasn’t their best season but they still had more than enough to beat their rivals. A week off and only getting 4 at Bowring first game meant that they found themselves 2nd bottom after two games! But after beating Bylet 14-0 their home form hauled them up the table, 62 points at home from 5 games moved them up to 2nd despite still not winning away. They got their first away win at the end of the first half of the season, winning at Chester Road for the first time 8-6. They reached top spot the week after winning 10-4 at Bylet and never relinquished it.  Their away form still wasn’t great but they did win away at Archibald Worthington and Hadley USC to go clear of Meole Brace in 2nd. They had a scare at home to Meole when they were only 5-5 and a few shots down but won both games to win 9-5 and virtually seal the title. Despite a wobble at Wem USC where they got 2, their 6 at Ifton virtually won the title and they won it the week after when they beat Sir John Bayley 11-3.

They made it a Premier League double by winning the Alan Mayhew Trophy but only just! After beating Bylet, St Georges and Meole Brace they played Burway at Pontesbury in the final. They trailed by 14 after 10 games but Pete Farmer won 15 and then Mick Jones last on won 12 to win the game by 1! In the Pool A they beat St Georges but then lost to Ifton by 11 on Meole Brace in the Semi Finals.
