2015 Review: June

Into June and Ifton started the month off with a 11-3 home win over Archibald Worthington but then got thrashed 12-2 at Newport the night after. Bowring and Burway gained an excellent 6 winners at Castlefields and Wrockwardine Wood respectively but it was the Bylet who pulled off the most important result of the season as they won 8-6 at bottom place rivals Archibald Worthington by just one chalk. Meole Brace continued their good form winning 10-4 at home to St Georges. The week after saw Newport have a week off but their rivals failed to take advantage, St Georges only beating Archibald Worthington at home 9-5 and Meole Brace gaining 3 at Ifton. Bowring and Burway gained good 11-3 home wins over Wrockwardine Wood and Hadley USC respectively. Burway then earned their second away win winning 7-7 at Archibald Worthington, while Newport were the big winners, hammering rivals St Georges 13-1 and Meole Brace only beating Sir John Bayley 8-6 at home to close the gap at the top. Chester Road earned a great 6 winners at Ifton then followed it up with a 12-2 home win over Wem USC but lost again Newport at home for the first time in an 8-6 loss in the last game of the 1st half. Meole Brace though gained an excellent 6 at Burway to keep ahead at the top while Bylet took advantage of a depleted Wrockwardine Wood to win 9-5.

At the halfway point the gap at the top is just one point, with Newport having a game in hand on Meole in top place. St Georges are 9 behind the leaders.  At the bottom Bylet are now 3 points clear of Archibald Worthington.

The Alan Mayhew concluded in June and Newport and Burway were the two teams in the final after they beat Meole Brace by 44 and Chester Road by 12 respectively in the Semi Finals. The final was an epic decided by the very last end as Mick Jones won 21-12 to win the game for Newport by just one chalks on the Nags Head green at Pontesbury.

Semi Final Results:

  • Newport beat Meole Brace by 44 overall. Won by 52 at home and lost by 8 away.
  • Burway beat Chester Road by 12 overall. Won by 24 at home and lost by 12 away.

Final Result

  • Newport beat Burway by 1 chalk at Pontesbury old Nags Head green
