Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Into May and the first fixtures saw the top three with big 13-1 home wins but Castlefields started their poor away form with only 3 at Ifton and the Bayley still couldn’t get going only beating Bowring 9-5 at home. The week after and Meole Brace pulled off an awesome 8 winners at Castlefields, but lost the aggregate by 9. St Georges and Sir John Bayley pulled off narrow 8-6 wins at Bowring and Bylet respectively but Newport’s poor away form continued with 4 winners at Wrockwardine Wood. The Wrockites then pulled off one of the results of the season winning 8-6 at Ifton the week after with Meole winning 13-1 at home again whilst Chester Road earned their second consecutive 12-2 home win over their neighbours Archibald Worthington. The Bayley kicked off their season with an 11-3 home win over Castlefields, who then bounced back to halt St Georges’ good run the week after 11-3, while the Bayley continued their good run with a 10-4 win at Hadley USC. Burway edged out the Bylet in one of the closest scores of the season, by 2 shots in a 7-7 win and Meole Brace fought back from 3-1 down at home to Newport to win 9-5 and extend their lead at the top. The week after and Meole edged Chester Road away with a 7-7 win in a closely fought game but Newport closed the gap with a 13-1 home win over Wem USC. Wrockwardine Wood’s good form continued with a good 5 away at their rivals St Georges, whilst Castlefields got the same good score away at Burway who have been impressive at home.
Meole Brace now lead Newport and St Georges by 7 points at the top, with the Bayley a further 4 behind. At the bottom Archibald Worthington are now a point ahead of Bylet with a game in hand.
In the Alan Mayhew Quarter Finals and Meole Brace won the Shrewsbury Derby by 23, the 44 shot home win the key, while Newport edged out rivals St Georges by 8 chalks. Chester Road were given a walkover by the Bayley and Burway edged Hanwood by just 3 shots in another close game.
Quarter Final Results:
- Meole Brace beat Castlefields by 23. Winning by 44 at home and losing by 21 away.
- Newport beat St Georges by 8 overall. Winning by 11 at home and losing by 3 away.
- Chester Road given walkover by Sir John Bayley. They did win by 36 at home.
- Burway beat Hanwood by 3 overall. Winning by 10 at home losing by 7 away.
