Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Into the second half of the season and July and a change was made at the top of the table that wouldn’t change for the rest of the season as the Champions Newport hit the summit with a 10-4 away win at Bylet despite a good 8-6 win for Meole Brace at Bowring. Castlefields beat Chester Road 13-1 but with only 35 shots between the two teams, while Wem USC won their first away game winning 10-4 at Archibald Worthington to extend Archie’s winless run. The Wednesday after saw Newport extend their lead to 6 points with a solid 5 at Sir John Bayley but Hadley USC produced their best home performance of the season beating Castlefields 11-3. Newport and Meole Brace both won 11-3 as did Wem USC keeping their unbeaten home run going. Sir John Bayley gained a good 9-5 win at Chester Road to continue their good form. Castlefields suffered another 11-3 away defeat at Wrockwardine Wood while Bowring beat Hadley USC 10-4 in rearranged games. The Wrockites then beat Meole Brace 10-4 the following Friday but Newport suffered at the hands of another impressive 11-3 home win for Burway. The bottom two both suffered home defeats, Bylet 4-10 against Ifton and Archibald Worthington 5-9 against Hadley USC by just 2 chalks. Hadley USC didn’t follow this up though as they only got 2 at St Georges then lost 11-3 at home to in-form Wrockwardine Wood. Newport and Meole Brace matched each other 10-4 to maintain the Champion’s advantage at the top. Into the last week and Wem USC halted Wrockwardine’s run by winning there 9-5 in one of the shock results of the season. Archie pushed Newport all the week in a 8-6 defeat while Meole Brace drew with 7 winners at Hadley USC to match each other again. Bayley’s indifferent form continued with only 3 winners at the Bowring while Castlefields hammered Ifton 12-2 to return to form.
The top sees 5 points between Newport and Meole Brace, with 8 separating Archibald Worthington and Bylet at the bottom. 15 points separate 3rd from 10th!
