Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Into August and much changed Ifton won 10-4 at Archibald Worthington but Archie bounced back the Wednesday after when beating an understrength Castlefields 10-4. Newport increased their lead to 8 after beating Chester Road 12-2 while Meole Brace only beat Burway 9-5. Ifton thrashed the Sir John Bayley 12-2 to continue their excellent run. Castlefields bounced back the Friday after when they won at Meole Brace 9-5, and with Newport winning 11-3 at home to Wrockwardine Wood the title race was virtually over. Chester Road sealed a good 12-2 win over Burway as the Bayley also bounced back winning by the same score against the Bylet. Meole did bounce back the week after when they ended Wem USC’s unbeaten 18 month home record winning there 9-5, but still lost a point to Newport who won at Hadley USC 10-4. The bottom two won with Bylet beating St Georges 9-5 and Archibald Worthington 11-3 against neighbours Chester Road. Meole nearly got themselves back into the race as they actually led after 10 games at Newport but ended up losing 9-5 to extend the Champions lead at the top. It was all home wins elsewhere, Bowring beating Archie 12-2, SJB and Ifton winning 11-3, Burway and St Georges 10-4 and Chester Road 9-5. Ifton’s fine run continued winning 10-4 at Hadley USC while St Georges were happy with their 6 at neighbours Wrockwardine Wood. Archibald Worthington produced the comeback of the season when winning the remaining 6 games from 5-1 down at home to the Bayley, gaining a point on the Bylet who beat Bowring 8-6 to move two ahead. Meole Brace gained hope they could still win the title after Newport only scored 2 at Wem USC and they beat Chester Road 10-4 to close the gap to 11 points.
