Castlefields smash St Georges, Bowring beat Ifton, Meole edge out Burway
The final three spots in the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy in the Semi Finals were decided tonight as they joined Chester Road in the last four. Castlefields showed their cup pedigree by beating St Georges comfortably as they won by 53 at home and only lost by 17 away. Three single figures were key at home, Luke Jones 4 and Paul Williams and Callum Wraight 6.
Bowring beat Ifton by 15 overall after being down by 9 overall after the first three games at each venue. Ifton roared out the traps at home, Geraint Williams winning 4, Adrian Humphries 11 and Darren Lacey 14 to lead by 34, but at Bowring Stuart Clee won 9, Josh Bradburn 11 and John Cooke 18 to lead by 25 at home themselves. But after Rich Lawson won 5 at Ifton for Bowring Ifton were left chasing the game. They won by 21 at home after Martin Jones had won 13 and Liam Stevens had won 16 for the visitors. Over at Bowring Rob Roden led 20-9 for the home side but Carl Roberts led 20-10 for Ifton with Bowring’s Dave Lloyd 11-10 down on Nicky Jones. Jamie Waugh rallied to get 15 for the away side off Rob but Andy Jones did likewise to get 17 for the home side off Carl. However Dave Lloyd moved up a gear on a round peg to win 12 and give Bowring the win. Captain Rich Lawson commented on “an excellent win for us. We did what we set out to do, limit the score away and put in a big performance at home. To do that against a top side in Ifton is very pleasing and gives us confidence going into Friday’s game against Hadley.”
The closest game of the night was between Meole Brace and Burway, where Meole won by only 5 chalks. Mark Thomas said it was a “good game tonight and got through with only 5 winners. We have won as a team with our losing players working hard to get a good score. Darren Wellings led the away leg with a 21-10 win and Will Tarrell won from 14-3 adrift” to give us only a 5 shot loss away at Burway. A 12 shot win at home gave Meole the victory.
In the Semi Finals Bowring play Castlefields on Wednesday 8th June while Chester Road play Meole Brace on Wednesday 15th June.
