One Mayhew and League game tonight

There is one game in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League and one in the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy. In the league Meole Brace will be looking to take advantage of a home game with Wem USC to move up from 9th to possibly top if they won 14-0. But Wem are also looking for points after “steadying the ship in recent week playing back at our normal standards” according to captain Mike Dulson. “The last two home games winning by 75+ shows how dangerous we are at home. We now have a gap from the bottom, so we now need to consolidate our position and pick up some chalks on the road with two difficult away venues this week. After this we will feel that we have been to most of the greens we struggle with and will have the extra home game in the second half of the season.” Meole Brace have enjoyed a good home start though and have won all home game with 8 winners or more and will be looking for similar to move them up back up to the top of the table.

In the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy it is the first Semi Final between Bowring and Castlefields for a place in the Semi Finals. These teams met in the 2013 Final, with Castlefields prevailing, but both teams are much changed now. Bowring have come into good form and find themselves 2nd in the league table, while Castlefields have struggled to get going all season, especially at home. But they did beat league leaders St Georges last week in the Quarter Finals and will be looking to keep that form up. They also have played there this season, in the first game where Bowring won 10-4, but the green and weather will be much different from that night. Bowring captain Rich Lawson says “the team is very much looking forward to the Semi Final against an extremely good Castlefields side, we’re under no illusions about what a hard task it will be to overcome them, we will aim to do what we did in the previous round by keeping it respectable away and hopefully winning well at home. They will be wanting to do the same to us, but whatever the result we’ll give it our all.”
