We look at the other finalist in the 2016 Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy Final, Meole Brace. They are the underachievers of the league, finishing runners-up in four seasons, and losing in 2 Alan Mayhew Finals and 5 Pool A Finals. But pre-2001 they were only a mid-table team with a highest finish of 7th in 1995 and 1996 and a lowest ever of 12th with 128 points. But they finished 3rd in 2001 and then 2nd in 2002, and then 4th to 6th in the next 10 seasons before finishing runners-up on 4 occasions, with their highest points total in 2013 with 234 after leading most of the season. They also finished runners-up in the Alan Mayhew Trophy and Pool A in 2014, the latter at Meole itself. They were also runners-up in 2006 in the Alan Mayhew, and in 2001, 2004, 2006 and in 2010 in the Pool A. So can they finally end their duck?

We look at how Meole reached the final.

1st round: Newport (won by 17)

First up was a repeat of the 2014 final against Newport, but this Newport side were missing a few of those players from that night and Meole took advantage. After Colin Beaman had won 6 at Newport they managed to maintain their advantage and won by 3 there. At home they were always ahead winning by 14, Dave Redge and Julian Cooke best winners winning 12.

Quarter Finals: Burway (won by 5)

This was another tight game which Meole edged, their away team doing the job again, only losing by 7 away. Darren Wellings won 10 and Will Tarrell 18 as they restricted Burway to a narrow win, and a 12 shot win at home meant a 5 shot win overall.

Semi Finals: Chester Road (won by 55)

Meole comfortably won in the Semi Finals after beating Chester Road home and away. Again the away side did an excellent job winning by 36 on Chester Road with 4 winners, the best being Julian Cooke 6. At home Nigel Bound’s 7 win helped Meole to a 19 shot win and 55 overall to reach their third final.
