St Georges bounce back, Bayley and Chester Road earn big away wins

St Georges bounced back from their defeat last week to beat the Champions Newport 11-3 to move 4 points clear at the top of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League. St Georges captain Tony Rhodes was “very pleased with 11 in a match strewn with single figure cards. Still a force to be reckoned with, you cannot take them lightly but once again we put in a highly creditable home result.” Half of the cards were single figures, with St Georges winning 4 of them and Newport 2. For St Georges Tony was best winner 1 while Lewis Scott earned MVP for his 5 win. For the visitors best winner was Dave Rhodes 7 and Pete Farmer made a rare appearance winning MVP for his 8 win. Meole Brace moved above the Bowring with a 10-4 win over them, led by Ade Rowe’s 5 win and Andy Wigginton’s MVP for winning 18 last on. For the visitors Jamie King was best winner 9 and Rob Roden gained MVP for his 16 win.

Sir John Bayley and Chester Road sit on 101 points, just 6 behind the leaders, after both earned 11-3 away wins at Hadley USC and Bylet. The Bayley continued their unbeaten run against Hadley USC, which delighted captain Spencer Clarke. “We are delighted with the result which helps us close the gap on the leaders. We led from the front winning all the front four, edging out three close games, which set the tone for the match. Alex Jones once again starred for us winning 8 and MVP. Neil Martin deserves a special mention for Hadley, he was excellent in what was a high class game. Overall a great result and superb team performance.” Tom Roden also won 8 for the visitors to be joint best winner with Alex, while captain Rob Burroughs also won 8 for the home side to be best winner. Chester Road continued their excellent form as they won well away at Bylet, a score that keeps Bylet near the bottom of the table. Captain Paul Fowles comments “we played very well again as green was in our favour and we made the most of it. Paul Williams (best winner 10) and Ian McDonald (MVP for his 14 win) were both outstanding at the front. The middle four backed it up and Chris Nicholson finished it off in style for a very good night’s work.” For the home side Kevin Brazier was best winner 5 while captain Mick Harries earned MVP for his 14 win.

Wrockwardine Wood moved clear of the bottom of the table as they beat Wem USC 12-2. Home captain Tom Langford said it was “a fantastic home win. Green played a massive part and we win as a team. Mark Clayton was outstanding (best winner 5) as was Philip Clee. We now have the upper hand going into Wednesday’s game. So far we have travelled well away picking up good points and we hope that continues!” Martin Williams earned MVP for his 12 win for the home side, while Fred Bailey won 17 to be best winner and MVP for the away side. Hanwood beat Castlefields 9-5 but Castlefields will be happy after winning the last 5 games on. Wayne Phillips and Dave Burton won 5 to be best winners for Hanwood with the latter winning MVP, with Paul Williams best winner and MVP for his 9 win for Castlefields. Ifton returned to form after hammering Burway 12-2. Best winner and MVP was Nicky Jones 1 for the home side, while Wayne Rogers was MVP and best winner for his 8 win for the away side.

St Georges are four clear of Meole Brace, with Sir John Bayley and Chester Road 2 points behind. At the bottom Hadley USC are 9 behind the Bylet. Only two players have won 12 games now, Alex Jones and Andy Moss, while Stuart Rutter still leads the MVPs on 6.
