Week 18 Review

Chester Road and Ifton produce comebacks, Bowring and Burway earn good home wins

The heavy rain over Telford decimated week 18 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League with only four games taking place out of the 7. Chester Road took advantage and went top of the league with a 9-5 win over Castlefields. Skipper Paul Fowles said “it was probably our best performance of the season after being 3-1 and 5-4 down to a very good and loud team. My boys held it together well to turn it around as it was a very boisterous game where both teams gave it there all.” Paul Griffiths was best winner for the home side 9 while Mark Holland took MVP for his 19 win. For the visitors Paul Williams was best winner and MVP for his 12 win. Meole Brace went 2nd with 5 winners at Ifton. Ifton captain Dickie Jones commented on “another good game between the two sides. Game of the night was between Pete Bound and Kevin Nicholas which was high quality throughout with Pete winning 20. Ade Rowe played well to get his MVP (for winning 16 for the visitors). Dave Bond kept his fine season going with another good performance. We won 3 out of the back 4 to win 9-5 which in the end was a fair result but Tommo did say that he would have liked one more.” Best winner for the home side was Andy Hughes 7 with Darren Lacey getting MVP for his 19 win. For the visitors Will Tarrell was best winner 14.

Bowring were the only Telford team to get their game on and were rewarded with a 10-4 win over Wrockwardine Wood. Captain Rich Lawson said “a good home win for us considering the amount of rain that fell, the green stood up to the weather well though and although a couple of yards slower I though we adapted well. It was 2 all after the first four which was a fair reflection but I’m pleased with how we came on strong in the middle and back. For us I though Glyn Hayward was excellent (winning 6 to be best winner) as was Dave Lloyd (who won 12 for MVP). For Wrockwardine Mark Jones played well but Tom Langford was outstanding in beating Andy Jones 12 (to be best winner and MVP). All in all a pleasing result.” Burway also produced a 10-4 home win over Hanwood. Captain Chris Dovey said it was a “solid performance overall. Front four produced two winners each with Ducan Pressley winning 7 for us against Glyn Wellings and Ash Wellings having a great game with Kiah Roberts winning 20 deserving his MVP. A good clean sweep in the middle with Ben Allen 14-2 down coming back to win 21-20. Then it was 2 winners each in the back with Kev Dovey getting MVP for his 14 win, his sixth straight one, and Wayne Rogers also won to make it 13 in a row. Looking forward to Castlefields next week!” Chris himself was best winner 6, with Wayne Phillips best for Hanwood, winning 9.

Chester Road are top by 4 to Meole Brace with St Georges a point behind. At the bottom it still remains 6 points between Bylet and Hadley USC with Bylet’s game in hand this Friday. Andy Moss has now won 17 to lead by 2 wins to Wayne Rogers, but Wayne has won 13 consecutive games compared to Andy’s 12. Stuart Rutter still leads by one MVP.
