Chester Road, Meole & Bayley have good home wins, Wrockites earn first away win, Bowring & Ifton win well

Chester Road, Meole Brace and Sir John Bayley all earned 10-4 home wins in week 20 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League to become the top three of the league. Chester Road beat Hanwood to maintain their 5 point lead at the top, with Chris Nicholson the best winner 5 while Mark Holland was MVP for winning 10. For the away side Dave Payne and Russ Wellings both were best winners 9, with the latter earning MVP. Meole earned a win over rivals St Georges, which pleased captain Mark Thomas. “It was a good home performance with Craig Wilson, Ade Rowe and Colin Beaman putting the aggregate out of reach of St Georges (all winning 6, with Craig MVP). I think it was the minimum required to keep any hope of the title alive.” Simon Rhodes was best winner for the Dragons 13 with Jim Kellett getting MVP for winning 18. The Bayley beat Castlefields to move above their opponents in the table, but with one game in hand. Home captain Spencer Clarke commented on “a cracking match played in an electric atmosphere throughout. The result was obviously great for us and special mention to Paul Reeves who was immaculate (and got MVP). But full credit to both sets of lads in what was a great match.”  Best winner for the Bayley was Alex Jones 9 with Paul Williams likewise for the Fields, winning 15, and Mark Taylor MVP for them winning 20.

Wrockwardine Wood earned their first away win of the season winning 10-4 at Hadley USC, who are looking increasingly likely they will finish bottom. Skipper Tom Langford said it was a “great win for the Wrockites. We went there off the back of last year’s performance (where they won 11-3) and won. From 1-12 everyone played their part. Onto Wednesday now and an early rearranged game against St Georges.” Dale Downes was best winner 7 for them with Martin Williams MVP for his 11 win. For the Huskies Ade Smith was best winner 11 and Steve Homer MVP for his 15 win. Bylet will be delighted to only lose a point to Hadley as they gained 3 at Ifton. Scott Harries was best winner 14 but it was one of the losers who gained MVP, Brian Walters for getting 19. For the home side Dave Bond was best winner and MVP winning 3. Burway beat Wem USC 10-4 with Wayne Rogers winning his 15th straight game 9 to be best winner, but Mark Rogers’ win of 12 got MVP. For the visitors Curtis Metcalfe, Derek Wright and Mike Dulson all won 14 to be joint best winners, but Curtis gained MVP.

Bowring beat the Champions Newport 11-3 to move back into the top 6. Captain Rich Lawson said “it was our best team performance in a few weeks, we got off to a good start with John Cooke winning 9 and both Rob and James digging deep to win 18. Dave Rhodes played extremely well to win 16 against Josh Bradburn (to win MVP), and after that we managed to maintain our advantage and extend it with taking the middle and back both 3-1. A lot of good performances from the team last night and stands us in good stead for next Friday when we face an in form Chester Road.” Best winner was Rich himself 4 with Brian Jarvis earning MVP for his 14 win. Ian Whittington was best winner for the Champions winning 13.

Chester Road are 5 ahead of Meole Brace, who are 6 ahead of Sir John Bayley, but the Bayley have a game in hand, at home to St Georges played on Tuesday. At the bottom Bylet are 15 ahead of Hadley USC, the two meet on Thursday in a rearranged game. Andy Moss still leads the League Averages by 2 games and Stuart Rutter the MVPs.
