Callum wins Midland Masters

Callum Wraight of Castlefields won the 2016 Midland Masters after beating Adam Kirby in a 21-20 thriller in the final. He had beaten two fellow league players in Hanwood’s Greg Smith for the second time in as many days in the Semi Finals 13, and Hadley USC’s Jamie Wyer 11 in the Quarters. He had received a walkover in the 1st round and had a close shave in the 2nd round when beating Ben Lynch 18, and then dispatched Dave Semper in the last 16 21-14. Team mate Clay Flattley had reached the Quarter Finals after beating Jack Williams 9, Andy Smith 20 and Josh Towey 13, before losing to Greg 13. Greg had beaten Gary Owen 17, then St Georges’ Simon Rhodes 7, who had defeated George Ward 10 first game, before dispatching Ryan Prosser 8 in the last 16. Hadley’s Jamie Wyer had beaten Sir John Bayley’s Peter Grimston 20, Matt Fellows 15 and Les Haylor 12 before coming up against Callum. Jamie’s team mate James Duce lost 20 first round to Potteries’ Kerry Morris.

Colin Beaman of Meole Brace had lost to runner-up Adam 16 in the last 16 after defeating John Finch 15 and Matt Ford 17. Wrockwardine Wood team mates Rob Fuller and John Clarke both won their 1st games 5 and 17 against Trevor Nichols and Mick Simpson respectively before losing to Josh Towey 19 and Brian Allen 16. Bowring captain Rich Lawson won his first two games against Jordon Baddeley 13 and Ed Furniss 18 before Kerry Morris beat him. The Burway trio managed one win between them, Wayne Rogers beat Chris Baker 14 first game, but then lost to Andy Milsom 15, with Duncan Pressley and Jolyon Partridge beaten by Lyndon Hazelhurst 13 and Chris Halford 20 respectively. Sir John Bayley player Ben Mellor lost 12 first game to Andy Smith of Derbyshire.
