Team 14: Chester Road

Chester Road have been an ever present in the Shropshire Premier League since it was created in 1994. They finished in the top four every season in the first 6, with 2nd being their highest placing in 1994 and 1996. They also finished runner up in the Alan Mayhew Trophy, the first of 5 finals they would finish on the losing side until they won it in 2011 against Newport at Bicton, and in the Pool A. Their form dipped in 2000 and 2001 when they finished the latter with their worst points total in the league with 174 in 8th place. But they improved to 3rd in 2002 and then won the league for the first time, being the most improved team with 35 points. They also added the Pool A trophy that season, as well as in 2004 and 2006. They won the league for the next two seasons too, with their highest number of points in 2004 with 245. They remained a top three side after this period for a number of years until 2013 when they finished 4th and then 2014 when they ended up in 8th spot. But they added another Pool A trophy in 2009 and the Alan Mayhew in 2011. They also finished runners up again in the Alan Mayhew when they lost by an agonising  two chalks to St Georges in 2012 at Meole Brace. They suffered their worse ever points total and position in 2015 when finishing 11th with 160 points. However they did have a good run to the semi finals of the Alan Mayhew again. In 2016 they returned to their form of old leading the table at the halfway point and being up at the top end of the table for the rest of the season before finishing 4th, just 9 points off 1st. They did win their first trophy for 5 years when beating Meole Brace in the Pool A final by 4 chalks, and did enjoy another run to the Semi Finals of the Alan Mayhew Trophy.

Individually Andy Moss has won the League averages a record 3 times, in 2004 and back to back in 2010 and 2011, only losing 4 games over those two seasons. He also added the Most Consecutive Wins in 2011 and 2014, which Charlie Weaver also won in 2005 and Paul Griffiths in 2006. Andy also won the Individual Merit in 2006 along with Martin Lloyd in 2004. In 2009 Andy Duckett and Charlie Weaver won the Mike Hinton Pairs, as well as Derek Wright in 2012 with Clay Flattley of Castlefields.
