There was more Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League players qualifying for competitions over the weekend as 10 of them will take their places on finals day. At Meole Brace, new St Georges signing Clay Flattley was the first one through after beating Dean Scarth 12 and Bob Whyatt to qualify 10, while Andy Moss enjoyed a relatively simple passage through his three games getting past Simon Green 7, Carl Preece 13 and John McDonell in the qualifier 21-11. On Sunday we only had one success which was Stuart Rutter who came through three close games, two of them 20 against Dickie Jones of Ifton and Tom Pritchard, before beating Brian Smith of Derbyshire 18 to qualify. Former winner Andy Hughes of Ifton also got through by beating Dave McDermott 16 to qualify, after getting past Paul Roberts 12 and Darrell Matkin 6. We had a few near misses to, Ash Wellings, Andy Foster, Paul Williams, Peter Farmer and Adam Jones all losing in their final game.
Over at ECC there was plenty of success from league bowlers. Our Merit and Pairs winner Josh Bradburn got through two close games, beating Barry Booth 19 and Ben Dixon, who played 3 games last season for Hadley USC, 18. Jamie Wyer, who has signed for St Georges this season, qualified after defeating Lewis Belcher 7, Ben Harris 14 and Paul Leah 7, with his brother Nick, who played for relegated Hadley USC last year, also qualifying. Former Most Consecutive Wins Winners Rich Lawson and Colin Beaman both qualifed on Saturday Afternoon, Colin beating Ivan Smout 8 and Darren Day 15 with Rich getting past Dean Nicholls 10, Dave Jackson 12 and Kevin Hocknull 15.
It wasn’t so good for the league in the CCF Open at West Brom as we only had two qualifiers, both in the same session! Leighton Roberts of Ifton beat Josh Cotton 8, Connor Chamberlain 16 and Adam Patrick 17 while former team mate Lewis Scott, who now plays for St Georges, defeated Josh Cotton’s brother Tim 8, then Leighton’s brother Kieron 18 and Paul Leah 11. Mark Picknell from Wrockwardine Wood got through to the qualifier but lost to Cliff Johnson 9.
The final weekend of action is next week with another 32 spots available to complete all of the finals day!
