Bowring lose out in 2nd round

Bowring lost in the 2nd round of the World Club Championships after winning their first comfortably, just like the Sir John Bayley did a couple of weeks ago. On the smaller green they dealt with South Ramsey comfortably despite a slow start. John Cooke won 12 and Rich Lawson 16 but James Grimston got 18 off Isle of Man Star Man John Kennish to put them 11 up off 3. Rob Roden and Jamie King both won to extend the lead to 21 before Josh Bradburn won 1 to win the match for the reigning KGJ Insurance County Cup holders. Aaron King won 18 and Dave Lloyd got 13 which meant they wonthe game by 38.

Onto the bigger green, and it was a similar story as like the Bayley as they struggled on a heavier green. They started off alright in the first four though with James winning 14 and John 15 but Rob got 8 and Rich 18 to give them a deficit of 3 into the back four. But after single figure defeats for Aaron and Josh the game was over despite Dave winning 11 and Jamie 18 as they went out by 17 chalks.

Well done to both teams on doing the league proud but couldn’t quite manage to get over the line on the bigger heavy green.

There was success though for Ant Bracken of Sir John Bayley as he helped the Greville Arms get through comfortably in both games, beating Lindal by 79 with 8 winners, 6 of them single figures, and Houldsworth WMC by 39, with Ant winning both games 9 and 11 respectively. Chadsmoor had Newport’s Mick Jones, Kevin Keary and Pete Cookson in but lost first game to Houldsworth WMC by 39.
