Ryan Prosser of Warwick and Worcester won the 2017 Meole Brace Open after beating Kevin Boon of the Potteries in the final 21-8. Ryan, who has moved to the George this season from King George V, ended young gun Josh Mordue’s fine run in the Semi Finals 20, with Kevin beating the league’s last hope in the competition, Chester Road’s Andy Moss, 8. Ryan had also ended another fine run in the Quarter Finals as he beat Phil Lyttle of Hanwood 12, who had beaten Kirk Stevens 17 and Steve Pratt 10 earlier in the day. Callum Wraight was another Quarter Finalist for the league after Kevin had ended his run 21-14, while Josh had beaten three time previous winner Graeme Wilson 17 at that stage. The other quarter final tie saw Andy Moss edge out Darren Plenderleith 20 in a classic.
Out of the other league hopefuls, Sir John Bayley’s Chris Ward beat Paul Leah 11 before just dipping out against Graeme Wilson 20, while his team mate Paul Evans had lost against Andy Moss 16 first game before Andy beat John Jones 18 next round. Hanmer’s Andrew Armstrong beat Stuart Mort 18 first game before getting 10 off Callum Wraight, who had beaten Paul Kissock 15 first game. Elliott McGuinness of Castlefields was the other league player to win a game, getting past Gary Owen 13 but lost out to Darren Plenderleith 15. Other league hopefuls Clay Flattley, Greg Smith, Andy Hughes, Martin Jones and Stuart Rutter all lost out first game.
