North Shropshire Derby, Wrockites face Meole test, Fields face Bylet
There is a first North Shropshire Derby in Gameweek 11 of the Salop Leisure Premier Bowling League for Hanmer as they travel the short trip to Chester Road. Hanmer have struggled on their travels but after their 4 at Hanwood in their last away game they will be more confident of getting a good result. Captain Dave Ellison comments “we go into tomorrow night’s game a little bit more confident after 3 good results in previous weeks. We go to a green we all know so that helps but Chester Road are a wounded animal after the last couple of weeks and I’m sure will be looking to bounce back tomorrow night.” Chester Road will indeed be wounding after last week’s 1 at Meole Brace, and have yet to match their form of last season. Skipper Paul Fowles says “we will have a hard game tomorrow. They will fancy their chances with our recent form but we played a lot better than the result we got last week. On another night we could have got 3 or 4 more winners but fair play to them they pulled out the big bowls at the right time.”
Table-toppers Castlefields travel to Bylet hoping to emulate Sir John Bayley’s 10-4 win there last week and stay at the top. The fields have been flying but only beat Wrockwardine Wood 10-4 last week and saw their lead cut to just two points from Meole Brace. Bylet though find themselves joint bottom and know they need to improve on last week to keep up with the other teams down there. Meole will have a tough task at Wrockwardine where they beat Wem USC 14-0 last time round. Captain Rob Jones comments “we look forward to enjoying what feels like a rare home game. Our form has picked up in recent weeks and we look forward to welcoming a good Meole side to Wrockwardine Wood where we will look to continue our recent form.” Meole Brace will be buoyed by their 13-1 home win over Meole Brace coming after 2 down the road from Wrockwardine at St Georges, and will want to keep their good form up at the top. Sir John Bayley will feel they can gain on the two teams above them with a home game against Wem USC, who got 0 on their last travels. But Wem will want to improve on that and will be reeling from their last game, a home loss to Newport.
Burway shocked Bowring last week and will aim to do the same at Newport this week. But this Newport side is a different animal and will be on a high after their win at Wem USC last week. Chris Dovey admits “Newport’s a very tough green to play with top quality players but we always go out to give it a good go.” Bowring will want to bounce back from that shock home loss but face a tough trip to Hanwood. Hanwood have been excellent at home although did only beat Hanmer 10-4 last home game so Bowring might sniff a chance of some good points. St Georges got a good 5 at Hanmer to follow up their 12-2 win over Meole Brace and will want a similar result at home to Ifton. Ifton haven’t got going yet but their thrashing of the champions Bayley in the cup on Wednesday will hopefully spur them on and they have had a good record up on the top green the last few years to.
