Top two meet, Haygate Road Derby, Bylet aim to bounce back
The top two of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League meet in Gameweek 13 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Castlefields lead Meole Brace by 6 points and with home advantage they will look to increase that lead. They beat Meole 13-1 last season but the year before they only won with 4 winners so it could go either way. Skipper Keith Walton says “after last week’s result at home (9-5 against Chester Road), which was below par, we must take advantage of another home game against our neighbours if we want to progress in the league.” Meole only beat the team below them, Sir John Bayley, 8-6 at home last week and know they must improve to keep in touch with the Fields. They will be helped with Castlefields without a few players who are playing in the Isle of Man competition.
The Bayley will look to take advantage when they play the Bowring at home. The Bowring have struggled in recent weeks but got back on track with an 8-6 home win over St Georges last week. The Bayley have impressed in recent weeks with 6 at Meole Brace last week and a 13-1 home win over Wem USC the week before, but vice-captain Rob Burroughs knows how difficult the Bowring will be. “They are an excellent young team just coming out of a poor run. The win last week will give them confidence and being a derby game they will be up for it. But we have had a real good June so far and need to continue that to take advantage of the top two playing each other.” Newport have quietly moved up to 4th and will hope for a big home win over an Ifton side in poor form this season and on the Newport green. Ifton will be buoyed by their cup run but know they need to start putting results together if they are to stay out of danger at the bottom. Newport have impressed away recently and know if they can return to their fearsome home record of before they can challenge the top three.
Hanwood face another away game when they travel to St Georges. St Georges will look to overhaul them with at least a 10-4 win and they have hit form again recently. Apart from the Bylet result they have scored at least 11 points in each of their home games so far this season. Hanwood have struggled away and did only get 2 last week at Burway, and will want to improve on that to stay near the top. Wrockwardine Wood recovered last week after their home loss the week before but will be wary of a Burway side who won at Bowring recently and hammered Hanwood last week. The Wrockites will look to bounce back from that home loss and return to their good home form before hand, including one whitewash. There are two clashes with team in the bottom 5 with Chester Road hosting Wem USC and Bylet playing Hanmer. Chester Road will want to build on their last result at Castlefields and face a Wem team struggling away, scoring just one point from their last two away games. But Wem will take heart from the result Hanmer got at the Road, despite their away struggles to. Bylet know they need to start winning again after a 4 match winless streak and face a Hanmer side reeling from their home loss against Newport last week. But Hanmer did win away the game before that and have shown some form away from home since their whitewash at the Bowring. Bylet have had a tough run with two home games against two title contenders so will be hoping for an easier time in trying to get off the bottom of the table.
