Castlefields head to World Club Championships

Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League winners Castlefields head to the World Club Championships tomorrow aiming for a first triumph in the renamed tournament and fourth overall. They won the competition in its previous guise as the Club Championships in 1993, 1997 and 2005 to be the joint highest winners. They head to Fox Lane in Leyland hoping for better fortune then they did two years ago at the same venue when they lost first round. Castlefields have a new captain this year and Alan Peach is “really looking forward to it.” They play Birches Head Hotel, full of Potteries County players, and know they will have a tough test even though Alan “personally doesn’t to much about them but the players will because they enter lots of competitions. If we can win the first game that will be good. We have a good squad and it would be good for Shropshire if we won it again.” They play on green no.1 first and if successful they will take on Stretton Anglesey from Derbyshire or Pudsey from Yorkshire.

Willenhall Nordley and the George will also have some players from our league taking part. Sir John Bayley’s Scott Simpson, Paul Evans and Wrockwardine Wood’s Mark Picknell will be amongst those taking part for Nordley, while new Sir John Bayley signing Elliott McGuinness will take part for the George. Nordley play Eastwood Park from Derbyshire while the George take on Broughton & Bretton.
